CSK will take on Delhi Capitals and start their IPL campaign today, with the aim of redeeming themselves in this season of IPL 2021.
CSK Playing XI vs DC in IPL 2021: CSK’s playing XI looks considerably stable when compared to the previous edition of IPL. Suresh Raina’s comeback is a plus point. Chennai’s biggest concern heading into this match against DC in this CSK vs DC game on April 10 will be the “right opening combination”.
IPL 2021: What will be the opening pair for CSK vs DC game?
Chennai’s side has a huge list of top-notch players on their team– Ruturaj Gaikwad, Robin Uthappa and Faf du Plessis, to name a few. All of them would have to fight for the opening pair slots in Chennai’s playing XI.
Until last year, Shane Watson was CSK’s opener but always had different partners due to instability in the top-order. The regular changes in the batting line up made it very difficult for the players to adapt to the playing conditions. As a result, CSK’s middle-order got exposed too soon.
IPL 2021: What options does CSK have?
Option1: Ruturaj Gaikwad
Gaikwad had rough patches in his IPL journey. From testing positive for Covid-19 to getting dismissed for a duck on debut, to scoring three consecutive fifties in the final three matches of the season, he has seen it all. Interestingly, his historic successive half-centuries were achieved when he came to bat as an opener. Just his runs make him a nice pick for the opener position.
Option 2: Faf du Plessis
Faf proved his mettle last year as a batsman for CSK. He managed to score 449 runs with his highest 87 coming as an opener. However, it was at No.3 where he actually performed well. In the starting three games, he managed to score a whopping 173 runs, which included two half-centuries.
Option 3: Robin Uthappa
Uthappa’s signing has made the choice more difficult. Uthappa has played as an opener in the IPL and would love to play his favourite position. His best as No.1 came in 2014, where he scored 660 runs and helped Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) win the IPL title.
CSK could pick Uthappa-Gaikwad opening combination, with Faf taking the No.3 slot
