A moment of history was made on Sunday during the match between the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). RCB pacer Harshal Patel became the third bowler to take a hat-trick for the men in red as his magical spell sealed the win for Virat Kohli’s men. Not only did the match see Harshal take a hat-trick, but Kohli also became the first Indian to get 10,000 T20 runs. It was an important victory for RCB considering that they had lost two matches on the trot before this against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). RCB made 165-6 in their 20 overs and bowled out MI for just 111. Harshal was definitely the star of the show as he picked four wickets, including an outstanding hat-trick. Things will be pretty tense in the MI dugout as they have lost all three of their matches after the restart. They are currently in seventh place on the league table.

MI BATTING WOES

The MI batting unit cut a horrid picture at the end of the match. Apart from openers Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock, no one could manage to get into double figures. Sharma played a good knock as he made 43 runs off just 28 deliveries while de Kock made 24 runs off 23 deliveries. No other batter for the men in blue could even get a half-decent score for the defending champions.

HARSHAL PATEL’S PERFECT DAY

The RCB bowling was, quite simply, magnificent. Harshal Patel was undoubtedly the star of the show as he dismissed Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and Rahul Chahar in successive deliveries. With Pollard and Hardik in the middle, MI still had a chance but Harshal completely ruined any chance of MI making a comeback. He also took the winning wicket of the match, ending his awe-inspiring spell of 4-17.

Glenn Maxwell was also in a world-beating form on the day. Not only did he do a magnificent job with the bat for RCB, but he also picked two wickets for just 23 runs in his four overs. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was also highly efficient as he picked three wickets for just 11 runs in his four overs. Chahal also bowled a wicket maiden. Pacer Mohammed Siraj also picked a wicket for the men in red.

KOHLI BECOMES FIRST INDIAN TO REACH 10,000 T20 RUNS

There were three batters for RCB that helped the team reach the score of 165. At the top of the order, skipper Virat Kohli reached a new milestone as he became the first Indian batter to reach 10,000 T20 runs. He played a brilliant knock as he scored 51 runs off just 42 deliveries. The RCB skipper was exceptionally well supported by wicket-keeper Srikar Bharat who made a valuable contribution of 32 off just 24 deliveries.

Towards the end of the innings, it was the Glenn Maxwell show. The Australian all-rounder smashed an incredible 56 runs off just 37 deliveries in an innings that comprised six fours and three sixes. He was awarded the player of the match award for his brilliant all-round performance.

Jasprit Bumrah, yet again, was the pick of the MI bowlers as he bagged three wickets for 36 runs in his four overs. Trent Boult, Adam Milne, and Rahul Chahar bagged one wicket each for Rohit Sharma’s men.
