India completed a resounding 3-0 series victory over the West Indies with another all-around performance in the third and final T20I on Sunday. On the back of a splendid 65 from Suryakumar Yadav, Harshal Patel (3/22) showcased his good death bowling form to help the Men in Blue register a 17-run victory at Eden Gardens. Suryakumar’s brilliant half century helped the hosts post a competitive target of 184/5 while batting first. West Indies had lost a couple of early wickets, but Nicholas Pooran (61 off 47 balls) continued his fine form to give them a glimmer of hope. However, the Indian bowlers did well to deny the visiting team from getting close to their target, forcing them to end their innings at 167/9 in the allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a target of 185, West Indies always had a difficult task in hand. It became even more difficult when India got an early breakthrough in the very first over. With Kyle Mayers batting, there was a huge appeal for caught behind in Deepak Chahar’s bowling but it was not given. Skipper Rohit Sharma instantly went for a review. There was a spike on Ultra edge as Mayers had to depart, leaving the visitors at 6/1. In the third over, Windies’ problems doubled when Shai Hope was caught behind by Ishan Kishan from Chahar’s bowling. The visitors were languishing at 26/2.

However, India suffered a big blow when Chahar limped off the field after sustaining an injury. West Indies took full advantage of the situation to build a dangerous partnership. Rovman Powell (25 off 14) and Nicholas Pooran seemed to be in good touch, leaving the Indian faithful a bit bothered. But the hosts got a timely breakthrough to get back into the match again.
From Harshal Patel’s bowling, Shardul Thakur took a stunning catch to dismiss Powell. West Indies were 73/3 and the match was only in its seventh over. However, a flurry of quick wickets helped India gain the upper hand in the contest. In no time, Windies were 100/6. Romario Shepherd and Pooran tried to give the visitors some hope but Indian bowlers did a commanding job to see out the contest without any late twists.
Earlier, it was all about Suryakumar Yadav’s impressive knock. Yadav smacked a scintillating 65 runs off 31 balls comprising of a boundary and 7 sixes. He looked in solid touch throughout his innings. In the end, he formed a good partnership with Venkatesh Iyer to take India to a competitive total. Iyer was also in good touch, scoring a quickfire 35 not out off 19 balls, smashing 4 fours and 2 sixes.
