It is now officially confirmed. Virat Kohli will play his 100th Test match at the PCA stadium in Mohali. The BCCI have announced the full schedule for the India vs Sri Lanka series. The tour will start with the three Twenty20 Internationals and then the two Tests. The two Tests will be part of the ICC World Test Championships. The change in the original schedule was done at the behest of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board. The team is already playing the T20Is in Australia and it would be easier to move from one bubble to the other. Initially, the Tests were going to be played first followed by the T20Is.

The tour will begin on February 24th with the first T20I at Lucknow. This will then be followed by two back-to-back T20Is on February 26 and 27 in Dharamshala. The first Test will be played on March 4 at the PCA Stadium. Kohli will enter an elite list of players who have played 100 Tests for India. The second Test will be played in Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy stadium on March 12 and it will be a Day-Night Test. This is the second time that India will host a Day-Night Test. They had hosted a Night Test in November 2019 against Bangladesh in Kolkata.

India vs Sri Lanka Important for Both Sides

The India vs Sri Lanka series will be important for players from both sides. This will be the last Test series that Suranga Lakmal will be part of. The veteran Sri Lanka pacer, who has been with the team since 2009, will announce his retirement from all forms of international cricket after the tour of India ends. This series is vital for Virat Kohli, who is facing a lean patch in his career for the first time.

Sri Lanka toured India in 2017 for three Tests and the same number of ODIs and T20Is. India won by margins of 1-0, 2-1, and 3-0. Sri Lanka has never won a Test in India and the last time they drew a series, was in 1997. Currently, Sri Lanka won the series against West Indies at home while India lost an away series to South Africa.
