Team India will travel to Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi to take on Afghanistan for the 9th ODI of the ICC World Cup 2023. The men in blue will enter the game in red-hot form with their batting unit looking more settled in the middle than ever before. Both Virat Kohli and KL Rahul played a controlled innings after a top-order collapse with the latter missing his ton by only 3 runs. But things are not looking great in the Afghani camp. After being restricted to a paltry score of 156, the Afghanistan team was not able to curtail the Bangladeshis. Batting has once again become the eye score for the Afghans. Naturally, when they take the field against an in-form bowling lineup of India, the batsmen will have to be more resilient.

Head-to-head

India and Afghanistan have faced each other 3 times in the ODIs where India has won 2 matches. While Afghanistan has not won any match out of the three. On the other hand, when it comes to ODI World Cups, both teams met for the first time in the 2019 edition. In that game, India won the match by 11 runs.

Pitch Report

It’s a warm sunny day in the capital which aids the batsman a lot. Moreover, the fresh surface in Delhi sports a generous smattering of grass. Although it is not the same strip, it looks a lot like the pitch that saw an aggregate of 754 runs. The South Africa vs Sri Lanka match saw the fastest World Cup 100 and the highest total in men’s ODI World Cup history. In recent years since 2013, teams that have batted first won five of the last six ODIs. Nevertheless, chasing a par score shouldn’t be difficult with the dew factor in the second innings. Though the pitch in Delhi is a paradise for the chasing side, a score of 350+ in the first innings might spice up the game a bit more.
