The International Cricket Council (ICC), on June 28 would ask BCCI if they would be able to host the T20 World Cup in India. India was to host the World Cup before the country was faced with the fierce second wave of COVID-19.

Speaking to ANI, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly reassured the same. “We have time till June 28 to go back to the ICC on hosting of the T20 World Cup,” he said.

The ICC Board, in a virtual meeting with Sourav Ganguly and BCCI secretary Jay Shah, asked what the status report was. The T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from October-November this year.

The BCCI has asked for a month’s time from ICC, and the board unanimously agreed. ICC has asked for a detailed assessment of the health situation in the country.

“Yes, the ICC board has agreed to BCCI’s request and they will have time till June 28 to decide on hosting the T20 World Cup in India. They will come back to the board next month with a concrete plan,” a source close to the ICC Board told PTI.

If the BCCI is unable to host the event in India, the tournament will shift to the UAE after hosting the IPL. IPL is expected to get over by October 10.
