Hardik Pandya, last observed in action during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh on October 19, experienced an unforeseen injury that prematurely concluded his participation in the tournament. Acknowledging the pivotal role he plays, Indian cricket authorities have adopted a comprehensive approach to facilitate his recovery. Presently engaged in an 18-week tailored high-performance program at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Pandya’s daily regimen is intricately planned until March. This program encompasses cardio, strength training, functional exercises, and dedicated periods for rest and recovery, with continuous monitoring of his progress to assess responses to the various components.

Sources reveal that the primary focus is on workload management, aiming to establish long-term goals for Pandya’s sustained effectiveness as a T20 cricketer. This strategy aligns with similar regimens followed by players such as Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul during their injury layoffs. The source said, “This isn’t something unprecedented. Shreyas, Bumrah, and KL underwent analogous programs during their extended injury breaks, with the routine crafted with upcoming assignments in mind.”

Despite the option for Pandya to participate in the T20Is against Afghanistan, the decision prioritizes overall fitness standards over immediate skill development. The strategic emphasis is on maintaining his fitness and getting him back in the setup of team India ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup.

Crucially, Hardik Pandya presently faces no fitness concerns. After undergoing back surgery in 2019, followed by an extensive recovery period, he has maintained a robust fitness record. The ankle injury incurred during the World Cup was an unfortunate incident, resulting from a slip while attempting to stop a ball.
