The entire cricketing world was waiting for Virat Kohli’s 71st international century, and when it arrived, everyone rejoiced. Among the crowd, one man named Aman Agarwal was particularly fond of Kohli’s century. Last year, a fan took a signboard to the stadium proclaiming that he would not marry until Kohli reached his 71st century. With Kohli’s century complete, Agarwal shared a photo of himself in his wedding attire standing in front of a television. “I asked for the 71st century but he scored 74th on my special day,” read the caption. Agarwal shared a collage where on one side he was seen holding the “I Will Not Get Married Till Virat Kohli Scores his 71st” placard while on the other side, there is a picture of him wearing a wedding outfit. This image drew a lot of attention as people responded to the tweet with positive comments and praised his devotion to the Indian squad and his favourite player. It was a genuinely remarkable occasion for Agarwal as he began a new phase of his life and witnessed his ideal score of 74th hundred on his big day.

Notably, Kohli hit an unbeaten 166 to help India upset Sri Lanka in the third One-Day International on Sunday in Thiruvananthapuram. His match-winning hundred, his third ODI century in the previous four games, featured 13 fours and eight magnificent sixes. “Ever since I came back from the break, I am feeling good and I don’t have a desperation to get to a milestone. I want to continue doing that and am content. Today I was happy to be batting out there and in that space, I end up playing good cricket. I am in a nice space right now, just be organic,” Kohli said after the match.

The return of Kohli’s form

Virat Kohli is undoubtedly the best limited-overs batsman in the world right now, particularly in the ODI format. Virat Kohli is only second on the record for most ODI hundreds in International cricket, with 46. And, maybe, the Indian captain will surpass Sachin Tendulkar, who currently leads the charts with 49 ODI hundreds. He has surpassed Mahela Jayawardene to become the sixth-best ODI run-scorer. He has already scored 12754 runs in ODIs.

He scored his third ODI century in the last four innings against Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram. But that is a slightly misleading way of putting it. There was a Test series after the first hundred in that sequence, against Bangladesh last month, and Kohli conceded that things didn’t go as planned for him there. Then, in the first One-Day International against Sri Lanka, he hit another century. While it was an aggressive inning, it wasn’t without flaws. On 52 and 81, he was granted a reprieve. His 166 from 110 balls on Sunday, on the other hand, was flawless.
