India recorded a famous victory at the Oval on Monday as they beat England in the fourth of the five-match Test series. The visitors now lead the series 2-1 and with just one match to go, there is no way they can lose. It was an incredible bowling display from the Indians as they took six wickets while conceding just 47 runs. England had to chase a humongous target of 368 but they were thwarted by the Indian bowling attack. The pick of the Indian bowlers was Umesh Yadav who picked three wickets. The hosts were off to a good start in the run chase as the openers built an outstanding 100-run stand. However, on Day 5, the English batting lineup simply could not shoulder the pressure as they were bowled out for 210.

All of the England wickets fell on the final day of the Test match. The hosts were 77-0 at stumps on Day 4, and the match seemed to be finely poised for a dramatic ending. However, since the dismissal of opener Haseeb Hammed, the England batting line-up fell like a house of cards. The first one to be dismissed on the day was Rory Burns. The opener had made 50 runs. Hameed also managed to get a half-century and was the highest run-scorer for the Three Lions.

Apart from the openers, none of the England batters managed to make a substantial contribution. Skipper Joe Root was the third-highest run-getter in the match as he scored 36 runs. Chris Woakes, Ollie Robinson, and Craig Overton managed to score 18, 10, and 10 runs respectively. Overall, it was a performance that the England team will certainly not look back proudly upon.

INDIAN BOWLERS STEAL THE SHOW

On the other hand, the Indian bowlers were on absolute fire in the match. They might not have had the best of performances on Day 4, but they certainly proved their worth on the last day of the match. Virat Kohli had deployed five bowlers to do the job and four out of the five got at least a couple of wickets. Umesh Yadav was definitely the star of the show as he scripted an incredible comeback story. He picked up three wickets, including the final one which handed India the win.

India’s ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was also one of the bowlers that had an amazing day. Bumrah picked up two crucial wickets as he sent Jonny Bairstow and Ollie Pope back to the pavilion with his performance. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also picked a couple of important wickets. He was the one who dismissed Hameed, who seemed to be in good form and Moeen Ali.

Shardul Thakur was the other Indian bowler who picked two wickets, and he is possibly one of the stars of the match. Not only did he impress with the bat in both innings, but he also picked the important wickets of Joe Root and Rory Burns. He has surely cemented his place in the Indian Test side at least for the recent future with his outstanding displays and will be an integral part of the squad.
