Team India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been in sublime form with the national side over the past couple of years. Siraj, one of the biggest finds in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020/21 for India, currently is one of India’s most important players in the absence of key speedster Jasprit Bumrah.

Siraj, well known for his stunning pace and variation was earlier criticised for his inconsistency, especially in the T20 format of the game as well. The bowler had a poor run in the Indian Premier League 2022 where he picked 9 wickets from 15 matches which came at an economy of over 10 runs per over. And, Indian keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik said that IPL played a key role in Mohammed Siraj’s current stature in Indian cricket as well.

“I’m very sure that he would be part of the 2023 World Cup team. He deserves that spot, he has done really well. The 2022 IPL taught him a lot of things about handling failures, and that has kept him in good stead. I see him as one of those — let’s just say he doesn’t get injuries — at least a 300-wicket Test bowler,” Dinesh Karthik said on Cricbuzz’s show ‘Rise of New India’.

Mohammed Siraj did exceptionally well in the tournament and after getting into the Indian team, he started making headlines also. His strong performances with the Indian team got him into the T20 World Cup squad as a standby as well. The player, however, did not get a game in the tournament but he came under the radar for his game as well. And, Dinesh Karthik said that Mohammed Siraj is at his best in Test cricket and potentially could finish his career with 300 Test wickets as well.

“He definitely has the aptitude for that, he has the skill set for that. It’s only the matter of whether he can stay fit for that long. He has shown so far that he’s very reliable. His strongest in Test cricket, one-dayers will come after that. T20s is where he is still learning,” Dinesh Karthik again said.
