Devon Conway has gotten his international career off to a great start for New Zealand. In the Test match at Lord’s, Conway started his career on an ultimate high. Conway smashed a double century on debut as he put the England bowlers to the sword. The New Zealand batsman became only the sixth individual in the history of Test cricket to hit a double century on debut. He joined Harry Graham of Australia, Lawrence Rowe of West Indies, Brendon Kuruppu of Sri Lanka, Matthew Sinclair of New Zealand and Jacques Rudolph of South Africa to have achieved the feat.

Devon Conway also registered the highest score by a New Zealand player in Lord’s. The New Zealand left-hander became the first player to hit a double ton on debut in England. The left-hander has joined Brendon Kuruppu of Sri Lanka as the other opener to hit a Test double ton on debut. Conway’s highest debut score broke a 125-record of KS Ranjitsinhji who hit 153 on debut against Australia in 1896.

But, it is his coincidences with Sourav Ganguly that have truly blown away every cricket fan’s mind. Here are the coincidences between Conway and Ganguly.

Devon Conway and his coincidences with Ganguly

Both Conway and Ganguly were born on July 8. While Conway is born in 1991 and is nearly 30, Ganguly was born on 1973. Conway and Ganguly are both left-handers. Conway made his international cricket debut against West Indies in the T20I in Auckland. Ganguly, on the other hand, also made his debut against the West Indies during the tri-series in Australia in 1992, when Conway was one-year-old.

Ganguly also had a century on Test debut against England in Lord’s. Conway has gone one better and hit a double ton on Test debut in Lord’s. This is probably where the comparison ends. Conway has a long way to go in emulating Ganguly’s record but he has started off well.

Conway averages 75 in ODIs, having smashed a century against Bangladesh in 2021. He was very unlucky to have not registered a century in Twenty20 Internationals as he was left stranded on 126. With Conway having started his Test career on the ultimate high, New Zealand would be hoping that he can provide his team with stability in the ICC World Test Championship final against India in Southampton.
