David Warner is one of the leading players in the Indian Premier League. The Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper was the key factor in the side’s lone Indian Premier League title in 2016. Warner is third in the list of all-time leading run-scorers in the IPL, with 5311 runs with four centuries. Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli are the other players who are ahead of him. However, heading into the match against Mumbai Indians at Chennai, Warner is on the cusp of achieving a special milestone.

If Warner scores a fifty, then he will become the first player in IPL history to hit 50 half-centuries. Warner currently has 49 half-centuries and four centuries. Warner is the only player in IPL to have ever hit over 50 fifty-plus scores in the tournament. One more will already cement his reputation as the best batsman in the IPL.

Records galore for Warner

Warner has been central to the fortunes of Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has led from the front in every edition. Warner smashed 848 runs in 2016 and that helped Sunrisers Hyderabad win the title. This despite Virat Kohli smashing an unbelievable 973 runs with four centuries in one edition.

In the previous encounter between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, it was Warner’s side that won the match by 10 wickets. In that match, Rohit Sharma was absent due to injury. Sunrisers Hyderabad are the only team in the IPL to have an even head-to-head record against the five-time IPL champions.

Heading into the match, Sunrisers Hyderabad are staring at an unwanted record. If they lose to Mumbai Indians, it will be the first time that they have lost their first three games in the IPL. Warner will be determined to ensure the 2016 champions avoid this dubious hat-trick.

Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their first two games against Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore by 10 runs and six runs respectively.
