When does it start?

The league kicks off on December 13, the day following the conclusion of the second Australia-West Indies Test in Adelaide, with Sydney Thunder taking on Melbourne Stars in Canberra. It is open till February 4th. Except for Christmas Day, there are games every day during the regular season.

Won’t it clash with other domestic leagues?

That is something you could say. The month now has a flurry of T20 leagues, with the inaugural editions of both the SA20 and ILT20 taking place. Leading overseas players are in high demand, and both rival leagues pay more than the BBL, but the player drafting earlier this year helped to lessen the gap somewhat. Nonetheless, many of the BBL’s overseas players will travel for those other two tournaments in early January.

How many games are in the season?

The teams play each other twice, home and away, during the regular season, for a total of 61 games. The last two Covid-19 summers have been difficult to keep the show on the road, but everything should be back to normal this time. Then there’s the final five-team arrangement, which goes like this: Eliminator (4th against 5th); Qualifier (1st vs 2nd); Knockout (3rd versus Eliminator winner); Challenger (Loser to Qualifier vs Knockout Winner); Final (Winner of Qualifier vs Winner of Challenger).

What about the new rules BBL had?

1 out of 3 The Power Surge remains (and was also introduced in the WBBL this season), but the X-Factor, which allowed a player to be subbed into the game at the 10-over mark of the first innings, and the Bash Boost, which provided an extra point for the side ahead at the 10-over mark of the second innings, have been eliminated. As a result, the points structure will revert to two for a win, one for a tie, and zero for no result.
