The middle finger gesture is obscene but popular in many sporting events. The double-finger gesture was made popular by WWE Wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin during the first decade of the 21st century. However, the legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin was carried forward in 2022 by two cricketers. During a Pakistan Super League T20 contest between Quetta Gladiators and Peshwar Zalmi, Ben Cutting and Sohail Tanvir squared off in a big middle-finger tussle.

In the 19th over of the Peshawar Zalmi Innings, Ben Cutting decided to unleash on Sohail Tanvir. He hit three consecutive sixes off Sohail Tanvir. When he hit the third six, Ben Cutting showed him the double middle finger. After hitting Tanvir for a fourth six in the over, Ben Cutting vented out his fury by saying something to Tanvir. Both Tanvir and Cutting exchanged words and had to separated by the umpire and Hussain Talat the non-striker.

When Cutting was dismissed by Naseem Shah in the 20th over for 36 off 14 balls, he was caught by Sohail Tanvir who had the last laugh and gave him the double middle finger. Actually, the feud between Ben Cutting and Sohail Tanvir goes back to the 2018 edition of the Caribbean Premier League. Cutting had hit a six off Tanvir but the bowler responded with a perfect yorker to dismiss him. At that time, Tanvir gave him the double middle finger which was the start of all the problems.

Peshawar Zalmi Overcome Quetta Gladiators

Peshawar Zalmi made a poor start to the match as they were reduced to 6/2 in the second over. Mohammad Haris and Shoaib Malik then steadied the ship but Haris was dismissed for 29. Malik, the veteran who is still going strong in franchise cricket, continued to show why he is the best in Pakistan. Malik shared a stand of 73 with Hussain Talat. However, when Malik reached his fifty, he was dismissed by Khurram Shehzad. When Sherfane Rutherford was dismissed for 0, Peshawar Zalmi was in trouble.

But, Talat’s fifty and the blitz by Ben Cutting towards the end helped Peshawar Zalmi reach 185/7. Quetta Gladiators also started poorly, with Jason Roy and James Vince being dismissed cheaply. Will Smeed, on the other hand, once again showed his prowess. Along with Sarfaraz Ahmed, Quetta Gladiators were staging a revival.

Smeed had earlier missed a century due to a fine catch by a fielder near the boundary in the earlier contest against Peshawar Zalmi. Here, he looked good after going past fifty. Smeed hit two sixes off Wahab Riaz but Usman Qadir got two wickets to increase the pressure. The batter hit two consecutive fours to move to 99. But, he inside-edged a full toss from Salman Irshad back onto the stumps to miss out on a century again. Quetta Gladiators lost the match by 24 runs but the real action was always on the Tanvir-Cutting incident.
