Team India had their backs against the walls during their tour Down Under after a eight-wicket hammering against Australia in the first Test at the Adelaide. To make the situations worse, premier India batter and then captain Virat Kohli, had to depart home ahead of the second Test with Ajinkya Rahane in charge. India were heading into the second Test after being restricted to a miserly 36/9 in the first Test. However, India showed their grit and courage, to win the second Test in Melbourne and level the series. The third Test ended in a draw before India defeated Australia by three wickets at the Gabba in the fourth and final match to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It turned out to be an even more special victory for India at the Gabba as Australia had never lost a Test match in 32 years at the venue before that.
