Australia is poised to face South Africa in a three-match Test series beginning December 17. This will be South Africa’s first visit since winning the limited-overs tour in 2018. The 2018 series in South Africa was marred by controversy, with the infamous ball-tampering scandal involving the Australian team shocking many spectators. After four years, the two sides will face each other in a Test series. There has been a lot of turnover in the Proteas camp, especially with the absence of major names like Hashim Amla, AB de Villers, and Faf du Plessis. The new South African batting lineup has plenty of ability and potential but lacks experience.
Australia, on the other hand, has been dominant in the format over the last year, whether at home or away. Following their pounding of England in the Ashes last year, Australia travelled to Pakistan for a three-match series, which they won 1-0. They did lose a Test in Sri Lanka, but the series remained tied at 1-1. They are also on the verge of winning the Test series against the West Indies 2-0. Overall, a high-intensity Test series between two top-tier sides is expected, with a berth in the World Test Championship final still on the line.
