The Asia Cup 2022 will get underway on August 27 with hosts Sri Lanka taking on Afghanistan in the inaugural fixture to be held in Dubai. The Asia Cup 2022 fixtures were announced on Tuesday with the event set to be played in T20 format which will allow the continental teams a dress rehearsal for the 2022 T20 World Cup in October.

Defending champions India will begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on August 28. The last edition of the Asia Cup was played in 2018 where India defeated Bangladesh in a nail-biting finish of the ODI format-continental event to be crowned champions.

Pakistan were dealt with a major blow ahead of Asia Cup 2022 as their premier fast bowler Shaheen Afridi has been ruled out of the continental event following an injury to the right knee ligament. Afridi will also miss out on the home series against England but is expected to return before the New Zealand T20I tri-series and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia.

Two-time Asia Cup champions Pakistan will, however, be a strong contender for the continental event. The likes of their captain Babar Azam, opener Fakhar Zaman will be the key players in the side.
