Born in the vibrant city of Nizamabad, Telangana, to Mohammad Jameel Ahmed and Parveen Sultana, Nikhat Zareen has become a symbol of excellence in boxing. She has already accomplished two world champion titles to her name. The young boxer, born on 14th June 1996, started her educational journey at Nirmala Hrudaya Girls High School. While, she did her Bachelor’s of Arts program at AV College in Hyderabad.
Nikhat Zareen‘s boxing journey began with her father’s guidance and training for an initial year. Her talents were further nurtured at the Sports Authority of India in Visakhapatnam. There, she was mentored by the prestigious Dronacharya awardee, IV Rao, starting in 2009. She earned the title of ‘golden best boxer’ at the 2010 Erode Nationals, which was one of her career’s first accomplishments. Her skills led her to accomplish the gold medal at the AIBA Women’s Junior and Youth World Boxing Championship in Turkey in 2011, where she dominated the ring against Ulku Demir.
The year 2014 was a significant year for Nikhat, as she bagged a silver at the Youth World Boxing Championship. She clinched gold at the Nations Cup International Boxing Tournament in Serbia, defeating Paltceva Ekaterina in the 51 kg category. One of her standout performances in her career came in 2022 when she overcame Tetiana Kob, a notable three-time European Championships medallist. It was at the 73rd Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament in Bulgaria, where Bhaskar Bhatt was India’s women’s team’s coach.
Nikhat Zareen’s triumph at the 2022 Women’s World Championship in Istanbul placed her among the elite Indian women boxers like Mary Kom and Laishram Sarita Devi, who have won gold at the prestigious event. Her triumph against Carly McNaul at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham contributed another gold to India’s medal tally, where the nation collected 22 gold, 26 silver, and 23 bronze medals. In 2023, Nikhat clinched her second world championship gold medal at the World Championships in New Delhi by winning against Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam.
