Croatia and Mexico to host the IBA Youth and Junior World Boxing Championships

The International Boxing Association (IBA) recently conducted its Board of Directors meeting in New Delhi, India, to examine a number of major issues concerning the promotion and development of boxing around the world.  The meeting, which was conducted in connection with the ongoing IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, discussed a number of topics, including preparations for future international competitions and the future IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships 2023 in Tashkent.

What the IBA president Umar Kremlev had to say

IBA President Umar Kremlev spoke about the importance of the decisions taken at the meeting by saying, “Our meeting was a great opportunity for the IBA Board of Directors to come together and discuss important issues related to the future of boxing. The ongoing IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships showcased the high level of women’s boxing worldwide, and I am grateful to the local organizers for the great work done. We will continue doing our utmost for our athletes, and the revival of the Junior World Boxing Championships is a great testimony to that.”

What events took place during the meeting?

The decision to choose Poreč, Croatia, as the host city for the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships in 2024 was among the important announcements made during the meeting. It is a sign of Croatia’s rising reputation as a sports destination that it will be holding such a significant event for the first time. Meanwhile, the IBA Junior World Boxing Championships 2023 will be held in Mexico, providing a platform for young boxers to demonstrate their skills and inspire the next generation to engage in the sport.

The IBA Board of Directors also talked about a number of problems pertaining to the growth and marketing of boxing. The ongoing IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, which have showcased the excellent caliber of women’s boxing around the world, were one of the key topics of discussion. The IBA President stressed the importance of continuing to support and promote women’s boxing while praising the local organizers for their efforts in putting the tournament together.

India’s Ajay Singh named one of the Vice-presidents

Ajay Singh, the head of the Indian Boxing Federation, was named an IBA vice president during the convention. In addition, Singh serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, the second-largest airline in India in terms of fleet size, as well as an Associate Vice President of the Indian Olympic Committee. With Singh’s appointment, boxing in India is anticipated to get more attention and benefit from new perspectives.

The approaching IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships in Tashkent, which is expected to be a highly anticipated event for boxing enthusiasts worldwide, was a key topic of conversation as well. The IBA Board of Directors emphasized the need of organizing the event in a safe and secure atmosphere. However, many nations have already decided to boycott the men’s championships as the IBA has allowed the participation of Russian and Belarussian athletes.
