Bhamidipati Sai Praneeth is an Indian badminton player who was born on August 10, 1992. After Prakash Padukone in 1983, he became the first male Indian shuttler to earn a bronze medal at the BWF World Championship in 36 years. In 2019, Sai Praneeth received the Arjuna Award as a mark of honour. Seshadri Deekshitulu and Madhavi Latha from Palakollu, in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, are his parents. He played badminton at the national level with his maternal aunt. Indian badminton player Sai Praneeth presently receives his training at Hyderabad’s Gopichand Badminton Academy.

The right-handed Indian player upset Malaysia’s Muhammad Hafiz Hashim, the 2003 All-England Champion, in the opening round of the 2013 Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold. In front of an enthusiastic home crowd in 2013, Praneeth shockingly upset Taufik Hidayat early on. In the Djarum Indonesia Open 2013 first-round match, he triumphed over Taufik Hidayat, 15-21, 21-12, 21-17 in the end. A few days later, on June 19, 2013, he defeated Hong Kong’s Hu Yun, who was ranked significantly higher, once more in the Singapore Super Series.

Domestic Career

Praneeth played for the Indian squad in the 2016 Badminton Asia squad Championships. However, the young badminton player was unable to participate in any matches throughout the event. The Indian squad put on a tremendous show the entire time, which earned Sai a bronze medal.

International Career

In the first round of the 2016 All England Super Series Premier, Sai Praneeth won 24-22, 22-20 in straight games over Malaysia’s second-seeded Lee Chong Wei. He won the 2016 Canada Open Grand Prix in the men’s singles division in July of that year, marking his first Grand Prix victory. Sai Praneeth defeated Lee Hyun-il of South Korea in the championship match, which was held in Calgary, 21-12, 21-10.
