Portuguese triple jumper Pedro Pablo Pichardo Peralta, also known as Pedro Pichardo, is currently the Olympic, World, and European champion. He is of Cuban descent. Pichardo rose to prominence after winning the World Junior Championship in 2012. He later went on to take home the silver medal at the 2013 World Championship. Pichardo cleared 18.06 meters with a wind speed of +0.9 m/s on May 15, 2015, at the Qatar Athletic Super Grand Prix. He was ranked third among all performers at the time, owing to his this sensational performance.
He signed a deal with S.L. Benfica on April 27 and became a citizen of Portugal on December 7. He became qualified to represent Portugal internationally in August 2019 after signing a contract with S.L. Benfica. Pichardo finished fourth in the final at the World Championships in 2019, which served as his first significant competition while donning the Portuguese colors. At the 2021 European Athletics Indoor Championships on March 7, 2021, Pichardo of Portugal won the gold medal.
Pedro, who has a personal best of 18.08m and is one of only five athletes to have leaped more than 18m, appears to be prepared for many years of competition at the highest level. Although the legendary mark of 18.29m established by Britain’s Jonathan Edwards in the 1995 World Championships is still higher than his personal best of 18.08, Pichardo is confident that, if he continues to improve his technique, he can not only beat it but also fly up to 40 cm past it in the future.
