Karsten Warholm is a track and field athlete who represents Norway in the 400 m and 400 m hurdles events. He was born on 28 February 1996 in Ulsteinvik, Møre og Romsdal, Norway and grew up in the Ulstein municipality of Garsholhaugen. He eventually started taking part in multi-sport events. Norwegian sports coach Leif Olav recognized right away that it could be a good idea to give the 400-meter hurdles a shot. He was determined to give it a shot because he was certain it would work out well. In the winter of 2016, they began preparing exclusively for the 400 hurdles. At the European Championships in Amsterdam, he finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time that was also a Norwegian record (48.84 seconds). At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, he then finished tenth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 48.81.
In the 400 m hurdles event at the 2017 World Championships in London, he won his first significant victory with a time of 48.35. At the 2018 European Championships in Berlin, Germany, he went on to win gold and set a new Norwegian record with a time of 47.64 seconds. His 400 m flat time of 45.05 seconds at the European Indoor Championships gave him his first gold medal in a major competition in this discipline. He successfully defended his hurdles title in the 2019 World Championships in Doha with a timing of 47.42 seconds.
He then won the Zurich Diamond League for the first time, clocking in at 47.26 seconds. During the Bislett Games, he started his 2021 season with a world-record timing of 46.70 seconds. He set a new world mark and won his maiden Olympic gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles in 45.94 seconds. In 2021, he won his second diamond league championship. In 2022, he wasn’t able to produce his best performance at the worlds as he finished seventh in Eugene, Oregon, with a timing of 48.42 secs. However, he came back strongly by winning the European Championships for the second time with a championship record timing of 47.12 seconds.
