Long jump specialist, and three-time African senior champion in the long jump, Ese Brume, was born in Nigeria on January 20, 1996. She is a native of Ughelli in Nigeria’s Delta State. Ese Brume has won five African junior athletics championships. During the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, she finished third to clinch the bronze medal. In 2012, while competing in the Nigerian Athletics Championship with Dakolo Emmanuel and Fabian Edoki, she gained notoriety. She won the 18th National Sports Festival in Lagos, which helped her gain enormous fame.
After clearing six meters, she placed sixth in the long jump. The 18th National Sports Festival in Lagos saw her win first place there as well. She achieved a personal best of 6.53 m (21 ft 5 in) the following year, finishing second in the nation behind only Blessing Okagbare. She was one of the most successful competitors at the 2013 African Junior Athletics Championships, taking first place in the long jump, taking second in the triple jump, and competing on Nigeria’s winning 4100-meter relay team. Additionally, she placed fourth in the 100-meter individual race.
The following year in Addis Ababa, Brume successfully defended her long jump crown. She performed even better this time, winning the triple jump, the 4x100m relay, and the solo 100 m bronze medal. Only five days later, she competed for Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games. Blessing Okagbare decided to take part in the sprints, leaving Brume as the lone representative of Nigeria at the competition. He cleared 6.56 m (21 ft 6+1/4 in) in the long jump final to win gold at the Commonwealth Games. Brume dedicated her victory to Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, who contributed funds and support to the area’s track and field community.
Brume said that Okagbare’s achievements inspired her. As a result of her medal accomplishments, Brume received an athletic scholarship with support from the local government to study in the United States. Brume went to Durban for the African Athletics Championships as the African leader in her event, having already qualified for the Rio Olympics with her personal best leap at the Akure Golden League in June 2016. She was able to successfully defend her previous championship crown.
