Laulauga Tausaga-Collins, popularly known as Laulauga Tausaga, is an American discus thrower who currently holds the world champion title in her sport. She achieved the honor at the World Athletics Championships 2023 in Budapest with an incredible throw of 69.49 meters. She smashed her own personal best by more than four meters on her fifth attempt and secured a victory over her fellow American and the previous Olympic champion from Tokyo 2020, Valarie Allman.
In addition to her world championship title, Laulauga Tausaga-Collins clinched the gold at the 2022 NACAC Championships with a throw measuring 63.18 meters. She also competed in the finals at both the 2019 and 2022 World Athletics Championships but finished last on both occasions. Some of Tausaga’s other accomplishments include winning silver medals at both the 2019 Match Europe v USA and the 2019 NACAC U23 Championships. She was also the champion at the 2017 Pan American U20 Athletics Championships in the discus event.
During her time at the University of Iowa, Laulauga Tausaga distinguished herself as a 2019 NCAA Discus champion and earned numerous other accolades, including being named an 8-time NCAA Division 1 All-American, a 6-time Big Ten Conference champion, and scoring in the All-Big Ten Conference 12 times. Before her college career, she made an impression in high school athletics, winning the shot put title at the CIF San Diego Section in both 2014 and 2015 while attending Mount Miguel High School. She also managed a third-place finish in the shot put at the CIF California State Meet in 2015.
