Karsten Warholm is a track and field athlete who represents Norway in the 400 m and 400 m hurdles events. He grew up in the Ulstein municipality of Garsholhaugen. He has been involved in athletics since he was seven years old. He has always been a part of the Dimna IL. He was a very skilled athlete on the track in his early years. He attended as many rehearsals as he could at various venues both locally and nationally. His favorites were the sprints, hurdles, long jump, triple jump, and high jump. He eventually began taking part in multi-sport events. In Donetsk, Ukraine, he claimed the U-18 world championship in octathlon in 2013. For him, the toughest events in the decathlon were throwing events and pole vault. 

He finished tenth in the decathlon at the World Junior (U-20) Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in 2014. In 2015, he won silver at the European Junior (U-20) Championships in Eskilstuna in the decathlon and 400-meter race. He clinched his first major victory at the World Championships London in 2017 in the 400 m hurdles with a timing of 48.35. He then went on to win gold and establish a new Norwegian record with a time of 47.64 seconds in the European Championships 2018 in Berlin, Germany. In the European Indoor Championships, he won his first gold in a major tournament in the 400 m flat with a timing of 45.05 secs. 

At the World Championships Doha in 2019, he won the hurdles with a timing of 47.42 seconds. This was also his second gold medal at the Worlds and he also successfully defended his global title. He then captured his first Zurich Diamond League title, recording a timing of 47.26 seconds. He opened his 2021 season with a world record timing of 46.70 seconds during the Bislett Games. He claimed his first Olympic gold medal in the 400m hurdles, clocking 45.94 secs and also established a new world record. He then captured his second diamond league title in 2021.
