The National Anti-Doping Agency’s disciplinary group handed down a four-year ban to several athletes, including Indian discus competitor Kirpal Singh and prominent shot-putter Karanveer Singh. The Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel of NADA made this decision public on December 29, 2023. These penalties begin on different dates.

Karanveer’s suspension started on July 26, 2023, while Kirpal’s began on July 7, 2023. Last year in July, NADA had provisionally suspended about 20 athletes from diverse sports. Karanveer, 25, was caught using prohibited substances, SARMS enobosarm and methandienone, which resulted in his exclusion from the Indian team for the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok.

In the previous year, Kirpal had won a gold medal but then tested positive for stanozolol. A source from the Indian team stated earlier that Karanveer was doubtful about the team traveling to Thailand. Karanveer secured a bronze medal in the Federation Cup in May with a throw that reached 19.05 meters.

He finished in second place at the National Inter-State Championships in June with a throw of 19.78 meters, coming in behind Tajinderpal Singh Toor. Karanveer’s best-ever performance was a 20.10-meter throw at the National Open Championships last year. Karanveer is currently the sixth-ranked Asian shot putter for this season.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor sole shot put competitor from India

Tajinderpal Singh Toor is the remaining Indian participant in the shot-put event at the Asian Championships and is a strong contender for gold, according to the chief athletics coach, Radhakrishnan Nair. Toor believes he can improve further in Bangkok after his training so far. Nair is also hopeful for medals in other field events like javelin throw, long jump, and triple jump.

Watch out for javelin throwers Rohit Yadav and Manu DP, long jumper Murali Sreeshankar, and triple jumpers Praveen Chithravel and Abdulla Aboobacker. Middle and long-distance runners also have a shot at winning in their events. In the decathlon, there’s a lot of confidence in Tejaswin Shankar. For women’s track events, look forward to the 100m hurdles, 200m, and longer distances were Andhra Pradesh’s Jyothi Yarraji, a new athlete in hurdles, could be a standout.

Annu Rani, who previously scored bronze in the Commonwealth Games, will aim for another medal win in the javelin throw. Also, the coach believes in medal prospects for Swapna Barman in the heptathlon, and long jumpers Shaili Singh and Ancy Sojan. India aims to score medals in the men’s 4x400m relay and the mixed 4x400m relay, having achieved 16 medals in the last edition of the championships.
