Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) to host Indian Open 2023

The Throws and Jumps Competition is scheduled to take place between March 1 and March 2, 2023 at the Inspire Institute of Sport.

The Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in Vijayanagar, a high-performance sports center, will host the second edition of the Indian Open. The Throws and Jumps Competition is scheduled to take place between March 1 and March 2, 2023. The tournament would be the first Athletics Federation of India (AFI) sanctioned senior competition to be held at the institute. The competition will feature 195 athletes across eight disciplines, including Shot Put, Discus Throw, Hammer Throw, Javelin, Long Jump, High Jump, Triple Jump, and Pole Vault. The Indian Open will be the first significant competition where Asian and Olympic Games prospects can test their skills against each other.

Overall, the Indian Open – Throws and Jumps Competition at the Inspire Institute of Sport will be an opportunity for athletes to showcase their skills and qualify for major competitions, such as the Asian Games, World Championships, and Olympic Games. The IIS’s world-class facilities and competitive environment will undoubtedly provide an exciting and challenging platform for all participants.

Representing the IIS will be athletes including Praveen Chithravel, Eldhose Paul, and Abdulla Aboobacker in the triple jump discipline. Jeswin Aldrin will participate in the men’s long jump, Jesse Sandesh in the men’s high jump, Abhinaya Shetty and Rubina Yadav in the women’s high jump, and Sharvali Parulekar in the women’s triple jump. Olympian Tajinderpal Singh Toor and medallists Karanveer Singh, Manpreet Kaur, Abha Khatua, and Pavithra Venkatesh will also compete in the event.

What CEO of IIS and AFI president had to say

The CEO of Inspire Institute of Sport, Rushdee Warley, expressed excitement about the event. He said, “It’s fantastic that the AFI considered the Inspire Institute of Sport as a venue for the second edition of the Indian Open – Throws and Jumps Competition. It gives athletes a chance to experience the world-class facilities we have at the IIS. These are exciting times for us at IIS and I am looking forward to what I am certain will be a successful competition.” While the President of the Athletics Federation of India, added, “The quality and depth of our jumps and throws athletes in the past few years will ensure that we will see a great competition in Bellary.”

The first edition of the Indian Open Throws Competition took place in Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala in Punjab. Tajinder Toor, Rohit Yadav, Abha and Seema Punia were the champions in Men’s shot put, javelin and women’s shot put and discus throw events. The event was held last year on February 27, 2022.
