High Jump, Decathlon, Men’s and Women 4X400m Relay, National Games 2022: Athletics Results Day 3

Here are the results for the Day 3 of Athletics in the National Games 2022.

Sarvesh Kushare of Services clinched gold with a new personal best of 2.27m in the men’s high jump at the ongoing National Games 2022 in Gujarat. His jump put him second behind the current national record holder Tejaswin Shankar (2.30 m) in the Indian all time lists. Sarvesh cleared the bar of 2.27m on his second attempt but was unable to clear the mark of 2.30 m in all the three of his attempts. Tokyo Paralympics silver medalist Nishad Kumar too participated in the event and finished fifth with a jump of 2.14 m. Usaid Khan of Uttar Pradesh shattered a 20-year-old Games record en route to winning the decathlon. The decathlete  earned 7121 points, surpassing M. Kumar’s previous high of 6951 in Hyderabad in 2002. With a total of 7098 points, Yamandeep Sharma of Rajasthan who took second place also broke the previous best record. In the women’s category, N.V. Sheena of Kerala won the triple jump with a leap of 13.37 m.

With a timing of 23.50 in the women’s 200-meter heats, Archana Suseendran of Tamil Nadu climbed into first place. Hima Das placed second in the heats with a timing of 23.98, while Dutee Chand did not compete. Amlan Borgohain of Assam took the top spot in the 200 meter men’s heats with a timing of 21.20. He was the sole participant in the heats to clock under 21.30. Jyothi Yarraji stormed into the finals of the women’s 100m hurdles with a timing of 13.30 in the heats. While Swapna Barman who clinched gold in women’s high jump is currently the leader in women’s heptathlon, followed by Sowmiya Murugan of Andhra.
