World’s greatest marathoner Eliud Kipchoge is all set to make his Boston Marathon debut on April 17, 2023. Two-time Olympic champion Kipchoge has won all the World Marathon Majors except for Boston and New York City Marathons. However, he had earlier expressed his wise to compete in those marathons. Berlin, Tokyo, London, and Chicago are the four of the six annual major marathons that he has won. According to the Boston Athletic Association, he has a chance to become the first reigning men’s marathon world record holder to finish the Boston Marathon since South Korean Suh Yun-Bok set a world record of 2:25:39 in Boston in 1947.

Kipchoge entered the marathon competition at the Summer Olympics 2016 in Rio as the favorite for the title. He lived up to the expectations as he went on to win the gold medal with a time of 2:08:44 on August 21, 2016. Kipchoge successfully defended his title by winning the gold medal in the men’s marathon at the Tokyo Games in a time of 2:08:38, becoming only the third person in history to do so. Kipchoge won the 2022 Berlin Marathon decisively in 2:01:09, breaking his own previous world record set on the same course in 2018.

The event, which began in 1897, was inspired by the success of the first marathon competition at the 1896 Summer Olympics. One of the most famous road racing competitions in the world, the Boston Marathon is the oldest annual marathon in existence. Its path connects Hopkinton in southern Middlesex County to Copley Square in Boston. The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has conducted this tournament yearly since 1897, except for 2020, when it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
