The biennial athletics tournament for athletes under the age of twenty in Europe will take place again in 2023 for the twenty-seventh time. The European Athletics Association is in charge of planning the 2023 U20 Championships, which take place in Jerusalem, Israel, from August 7–10 of that year.[1][2] The competition was originally given to Cluj-Napoca, Romania, but European Athletics changed the award to Israel since Cluj Arena was unfit for such championships. There will be 1,139 competitors competing in these championships, 611 men and 528 women, representing 44 different countries. Many participants will also be familiar with the venue because it previously hosted the 2022 European Athletics U18 Championships in Jerusalem’s Givat Ram Stadium. Undoubtedly, a lot of the champions have plans to compete again this year at the U20 level.

Previous year records

Great Britain and Northern Ireland won six gold medals to take first place in the medal standings at the 2021 European Athletics U20 Championships in Tallinn, Estonia. Germany and Ireland came in second and third, respectively, with four victories each. Among the standout performers at those competitions were France’s Sasha Zhoya, who won the 110-meter hurdles event, clocking a championship-record 13.05 in the final after clocking a wind-assisted 12.98 in the semifinals. Lithuania’s Mykolas Alekna, who won the discus title one year before graduating to senior honours at the European Athletics Championships, also made an impression. Angelina Topic and Adriana Vilagos, two highly regarded Serbian athletes who won medals at the European Athletics Championships in the high jump and javelin, respectively, in Munich last summer, are among the potential stars at this year’s European Athletics U20 Championships.

While Vilagos followed up her world U20 title in Cali, Colombia with a silver medal in the javelin behind her longtime age-group rival Elina Tzengko from Greece, the topic also won gold at the European Athletics U18 Championships in Jerusalem before winning the high jump bronze in Munich at the age of 17 to become the even youngest-ever medalist. Mattia Furlani from Italy and Niels Laros from the Netherlands should also be on your radar because they won great doubles in Jerusalem last year. While Laros easily won the 1500m and 3000m before revising the European U18 bests in both races at the conclusion of the season, Furlani easily won the long jump and high jump titles.

Live Streaming, When and Where to Watch

The event takes place in Jerusalem, Israel, from Monday to Thursday, August 7–10. The live stream on All Athletics TV is the ideal option for sports fans who can’t travel to Jerusalem to see the action in person. From the convenience of their own homes, viewers will be able to watch the gifted young athletes compete in a variety of track and field disciplines. A wide variety of sports, including sprinting, long jump, javelin throw, and high jump, will be available to watch.
