The Brussels Diamond League got underway at the King Baudouin Stadium in the capital city of Belgium on 1st Sept 2022. This was the last leg of the competition before the final in Zurich, to be held on Sept 7. A lot of top athletes from the Olympics, World Championships, and other competitions will be in contention during the grand finale in Zurich. The previous leg of the competition took place at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Joe Kovacs, a two-time world champion, broke the Allianz Memorial Van Damme meeting record on Thursday. He clinched the shot put by more than a meter at the Diamond League competition with a winning distance of 22.61 meters. The competition provided the top shot putters in the world with an opportunity to score points before the Wanda Diamond League Final. The 2017 world champion Tom Walsh gained a lead early with a distance of 21.60 meters. However, Kovacs answered with a distance of 22.61 meters in the following round. He smashed the previous record established by his American colleague Darrell Hill in 2017.
