Jim Cornette and Brian Last, his co-host on his podcast, are not renowned for being diplomatic when discussing professional wrestling or its practitioners. Since then, Matt Hardy has referred to their supporters as “the toxic Cornette cult”

This remark appears to have been the catalyst for the recent social media back-and-forth between the two sides, which has resulted in some pretty heated exchanges.

It all started when Matt Hardy brought up the underappreciated bout between The Dark Order and The Elite from Friday’s AEW Rampage, prompting him to use his catchphrase for Jim Cornette once again.

“Hardy: Dark Order vs The Elite was a fantastic match. It’s nice to see Dark Order earn such a well deserved spotlight. #AEWRampage The @youngbucksb & Adam Page are extraordinary talents that will unfortunately get their flowers way later than they should.

Fan: Matt’s right though. I know it’s cool to hate on The Bucks and Hangman if you’re a Punk/Collision fan but not from me. Give those guys their flowers.

Hardy: Between this & the toxic Cornette cult, these guys don’t get the adoration that they truly deserve. The diehard Elite fans are phenomenal & get why they’re special, but there’s a huge chunk of fans that fail to give them the credit they deserve. Give these guys their flowers.”

Jim Cornette didn’t hold back

From hearing the remark, Jim Cornette immediately went for the former Tag Team Champion who had won several titles.

“Cornette: Jeez, Matt, I could understand selling your soul for Rock & Roll, but selling it for Adderall? Even if you have to abandon your principles and verbally fellate these childish cretins for your check, leave my fans alone, it’s not their fault Tony’s not paying THEM enough to lie.

Hardy: Jeez, Jim, haven’t sold my soul, I’m sticking to my principles & telling truths. I feel morally obligated to do right by my friends, altho that’s probably foreign to you. I earn a check because I’m great at what I do & still employable. Keep on seeding dissension amongst fans with your schtick, it’s too sweet!” H/T – TJRWrestling

He later joined in, too, being quite critical of Matt Hardy’s most recent work, which, unsurprisingly, did not sit well with Hardy.
