Since AEW put Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) and Adam Cole together for the Blind Eliminator Tournament last month, we’ve been big fans of their comedic act and tag team.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter from this week tells us that we’re not the only ones.

Dave Meltzer writes that MJF & Adam Cole’ “Better Than You BAY BAY” t-shirt has sold more than any other AEW shirt this year, even though it just came out a few weeks ago. It’s also the second best-selling shirt of the year, but the best-selling shirt was a MJF dress shirt that sold for much more.

Friedman tweeted, “We’ve got another one cooking” in response to a tweet about the news. And, surprise, look what showed up today on ShopAEW.com!

The sale of goods is just the latest way that the theme has been successful. It makes you wonder if AEW is rethinking how long they will stay together.

MJF and Adam Cole are not going to be together for long

It was clear from the start that it wouldn’t last long. When MJF and Cole were put together, they had just fought to a draw in a World Championship Eliminator match. If Cole had won, he would have gotten a shot at Max’s title, so the Blind Eliminator Tournament seemed like a way to put off a rematch for the belt until August’s All-In or Labor Day weekend’s All Out PPV.

When Friedman and Cole won the tournament and got a match against FTR for the AEW Tag Team titles at the July 29 Collision, we knew that was still the plan. The competitor looked at the champion’s belt for a little too long, and Better Than You BAY BAY almost got into a fight with Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler before they all just stared at each other. Most people think that after they lose to the Top Guys next weekend, there won’t be any “almost” about it.

But Tony Khan could put that off and keep getting money from this surprising source for a while longer. It would probably mean making big changes to his plans for the next few months, but he’s had to do that before, and for much worse reasons than a show going better than expected.

Tell us your thoughts. And while stocks last, you can get Better Than You Bay Bay merchandise here.
