According to Wade Keller of PW Torch. Despite some reservations over his 17 June homecoming promo, in which he referred to Matt and Nick Jackson as “Counterfeit Bucks,” CM Punk is “showing good leadership backstage so far at Collision.” The wrestler is said to be proud of Collision as “his show.” He wants to do everything he can to guarantee that the program runs well both on and off the screen.

On June 17, CM Punk returned to AEW for the premiere of Collision. He has been a fixture in the Saturday night main event scene ever since, having competed in three of the brand’s four headliners so far, with his most recent triumph coming on last week’s show over long-time foe Samoa Joe.

Punk had not wrestled for AEW since All Out in September 2022, when he not only received an indefinite ban for brawling with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks but also tore his triceps in a bout with Jon Moxley.

CM Punk regrets the backstage brawl

AEW wrestler CM Punk claimed in his first interview after the backstage altercation that led to his suspension that he regrets how he handled the situation and has apologized to CEO and president Tony Khan.

Punk took aim at AEW wrestlers and executive vice presidents Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) during a press conference following the All Out pay-per-view in September, saying that they had leaked erroneous information to the media. (Punk referred to them as “irresponsible people who call themselves EVPs and couldn’t f–ing manage a Target.”) Following the press conference, The Young Bucks and Omega attacked Punk in his dressing area, resulting in a brawl, with Punk allegedly delivering the first blow.

“The first thing I said to Tony when I sat down with him and spoke to him after it was, ‘Man, I’m really sorry I put you in that position,’” Punk said in an interview with ESPN’s Marc Raimondi published Friday. “I apologize for the [media] scrum. But when you’ve watched that scrum, you’re looking at a very, very frustrated guy who had told people. That’s not the first time he heard all that. It’s not the first time lawyers were told all that. And I was just looking for something to be done and nothing got done. So, if you want something done right, you got to do it yourself. And I just didn’t approach it in the right manner, but tension was high. I was very, very pissed. I pretty much knew that I had just injured myself again. I was hurt, and I was disappointed. Yeah, it’s very easy for me to say I regret that and I handled it the wrong way, 100%.”
