Dangers abound in professional wrestling, particularly in hazardous matches such as Ladder Matches. Buddy Matthews suffered a separated shoulder during last night’s ladder match for the mask of Andrade El Idolo on “AEW Collision,” but a ringside physician reattached it rather than halt the match.

Matthews tweeted, alongside a GIF depicting his grisly treatment, “Never question if I give you my all,” Matthews was ultimately ineffectual despite the ringside physician and Julia Hart’s in-ring assistance, which backfired when Matthews was handcuffed to the ropes. Andrade won the match, reclaiming the mask that House of Black had stolen from him, as Matthews watched helplessly.

Malakai Black believes Buddy Matthews is overlooked

Matthews’s combative character lends credence to Malakai Black’s recent interview on the Undisputed Podcast with Bobby Fish, despite the defeat. The leader of House of Black believes that admirers have overlooked Matthews’ talent and determination.

“When it comes to the sheer ability and athleticism, I think Buddy Matthews is one of the best in this current era,” Black said recently. “And not because we’re in a group, not because he’s one of my best friends, but just from a pro wrestling standpoint from being in the ring with him.”

Matthews says that his skill comes from the fact that everyone in House of Black wants to be great.

“We’re all perfectionists,” Matthews said recently. “We’re looking for the best outcome. If anyone, you know, goes off track, we will police ourselves and get the other one back, whether it’s Brody, myself, or Malakai.”
