Since his return to the main roster for the second time, Austin Theory has been positioned as the next big WWE star. It all started when he was the United States Champion, won the Money in the Bank briefcase, and appeared on television with Vince McMahon. When McMahon retired from the company and Triple H took over creative, he suffered a character change.

He struggled on-screen, including a losing run and falling short when he cashed in his MITB briefcase against Seth Rollins. Theory reclaimed the United States Championship at Survivor Series in November in a triple-threat match with Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins.

Theory won the greatest match of his career earlier this year when he defeated John Cena at WrestleMania 39. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Theory’s tenure as US Champion is the longest since Dean Ambrose’s reign 10 years ago. For 351 days, Ambrose, now known as Jon Moxley, held the championship.

Who will Austin Theory defend his title against next?

The next Austin Theory feud may have just been teased. WWE spent a week in the United Kingdom, with London hosting the Money In The Bank event on July 1. During this trip, though, the company made stops in a few other cities.

On July 2, a live event from Cardiff, Wales, took place at the Cardiff International Arena. Austin Theory defended the United States Championship against AJ Styles at the event. This might be a hint as to where the US Champion’s attention will shift next. On WWE television, Theory has been feuding with The Brawling Brutes and will confront Sheamus on the July 7 edition of SmackDown.
