In potentially heartbreaking news, it looks that the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door genuine wrestling fantasy match may be cancelled. The Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez said on Wrestling Observer Radio that Danielson “probably won’t wrestle for quite some time, missing Forbidden Door and Blood & Guts.” While it was announced that Bryan Danielson sustained a mysterious injury during the Anarchy In The Arena battle at Double Or Nothing, it was also intimated that the match with Zack Sabre, Jr. would take place this Sunday. Sabre, Jr. made the challenge lately, and Danielson’s manager William Regal publicly discussed it on the most recent episode of Rampage – at which point Danielson’s injury condition surely have been known privately.

Danielson, strangely enough, is scheduled to explain his condition for both events live on Dynamite tonight. This would have made sense if the match had been confirmed and aggressively publicized—it would be good practice to notify supporters well in advance if it had been rescheduled or scrapped—but it has only ever been referred to. We’ll find out for sure tonight on Dynamite-it’s always conceivable that Alvarez was misled-but choosing for a “Here’s a terrific bout you might have watched!” attitude, especially on the go-home show, seems strange.

Bryan Danielson vs Zack Sabre, Jr. dream technical match

ZSJ criticized the Blackpool Combat Club in his promo, referring to it as the “Blackpool Combat Club.” He challenged Bryan Danielson to a match in Chicago to see who is the finest technical wrestler of all time. ZSJ and Danielson are both at the pinnacle of their technical wrestling abilities. ZSJ earned the Wrestling Observer Network’s annual Bryan Danielson Award for the top technical wrestler from 2014 to 2020. Bryan Danielson himself won the prize last year, ending his run. Their fame alone makes the thought of them meeting as singles a perfect match.
