On the 29th July edition of AEW Collision, Punk was challenged by opponent Ricky Starks after revealing that the bag he had been carrying around held the AEW World Championship he had won from Jon Moxley at AEW All Out last September.

After two dubious earlier victories for the challenger, Starks sought a championship bout with the Chicago native on the 5th August episode of AEW Collision, which Punk accepted to on the condition that WWE Hall Of Famer Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat be the special guest referee.

It was a memorable interaction between the two Owen Hart Foundation finalists, and Tony Schiavone rated it his favorite AEW piece ever on a recent episode of his podcast ‘What Happened When‘:

“You’re not going to be able to beat me and CM Punk and Ricky Starks this last Saturday. That has to go down as one of my favorite ones. I really enjoyed that … I loved it, loved the whole segment. I loved that segment, and I loved the segment the week before when we established that tag team match, and I was out there for that.”

“But listen, I also love … I love the stuff I did with Britt, where we did the thing, getting our nails done. I liked all of that stuff, working with her. But I really think … that segment Saturday night was one of my favorites, if not my favorite of all time, me being a part of, personally.”

What happened between Ricky Starks and CM Punk?

On the 5th August episode of AEW Collision, CM Punk maintained the championship he never lost, rolling up Starks for the three count following intervention from Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat.

After the match, an enraged Ricky Starks assaulted Steamboat with a belt until Punk saved him.
