About Iron Sheik’s wife

Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, known as The Iron Sheik, was a Shia Muslim and a former soldier in the Imperial Iranian Army. On March 21, 1976, he married Caryl Peterson, an American woman.

Their wedding had “Mean” Gene Okerlund, a prominent wrestling personality, serving as the best man. Despite the language barrier, The Iron Sheik often referred to Okerlund as “Gene Mean” in his broken English.

Tragically, the couple faced a devastating loss when their eldest daughter, Marissa Jeanne Vaziri, was murdered by her boyfriend, Charles Warren Reynolds, in May 2003, at the age of 26. Reynolds was apprehended and later convicted for the crime. In a further sorrowful turn, Reynolds himself passed away on May 31, 2016.

The Iron Sheik and Caryl Peterson have two other daughters and are grandparents to five grandchildren. The family has undoubtedly faced profound challenges, but their resilience and love for one another have helped them navigate through difficult times.
