Akira Tozawa (born July 22, 1985, Nishinomiya, Hyogo, Japan) is a professional wrestler from Japan. He currently wrestles in WWE appearing on the Raw brand. He formerly held the 24/7 Championship and WWE Cruiserweight Championship. He had a twelve-year career in Dragon Gate prior to joining the WWE, where he held titles in Open the Brave Gate, Open the Twin Gate, Open the Triangle Gate, and Open the Owarai Gate.
He also won the 2011 and 2012 Summer Adventure Tag League. Additionally, he is well-known for his 12-month trip to the US, during which time he wrestled for firms like Chikara, Dragon Gate USA, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla.
Tozawa was introduced as a competitor in the WWE’s Global Cruiserweight Series competition on March 31, 2016. On June 23, Tozawa won his first-round match against Kenneth Johnson to kick off the competition. On July 14, Tozawa won his second-round match against Jack Gallagher. Gran Metalik defeated Tozawa in the tournament’s quarterfinals on August 26.
A rivalry started when Drew Gulak attacked Tozawa on 205 Live. Prior to his appearance on the October 31 episode of 205 Live, where he defeated Gulak, Tozawa was out of commission for a few weeks. The conflict between Tozawa and Gulak was resolved in a Street Fight on the 205 Live show airing on November 21. Tozawa and Hideo Itami created a tag team in February 2018. On the March 13 episode of 205 Live, they defeated Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado, but afterward, they got into a fight with them and their buddy Kalisto.

Tozawa won the 24/7 Championship on the December 23 episode of Raw by pinning the champion R-Truth, but he lost it to Santa Claus. On April 12, 2020, it was revealed that Tozawa would be competing for Group B in the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament. He won his first match against Isaiah Swerve Scott and his second match against Gentleman Jack Gallagher before losing to El Hijo del Fantasma. As a result, he finished the tournament with just two victories and was unable to advance to the finals.
