Sami Zayn has never competed in a WWE event in Saudi Arabia since the promotion began doing so in April 2018. The babyface has also stated that he has no interest in wrestling in this Middle Eastern country, although sources indicate that this isn’t the deciding factor in his absence from Saudi shows.

It goes without saying that the Sami Zayn’s real-life troubles stem from Saudi Arabia’s political attitude. He is of Syrian heritage, a nation that has had tense relations with the Kingdom since the civil upheavals in 2012. WWE’s 10-year agreement with Saudi Arabia in 2018 said that they will respect their ideas and goals.

There is quite a chance that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn might have to drop their championship gold before the night of champions. With stipulation every championship is to be defended and Sami Zayn’s real life problems might make him and Owens drop the title. The decision, however, will not be loved by fans as he is one of the biggest babyface since Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson AEW). After a long character development, Zayn and Owens are newly minted champions, therefore returning The Bloodline to its previous grandeur would be a waste of all the creative hard work.

Kevin Owens allegedly declined to perform in Saudi Arabia due to the country’s treatment towards Sami Zayn. It will be interesting to see if the couple is scheduled for the event.

WWE’s choice to hold the Night of Champions Premium Live Event rather than King & Queen of the Ring in Jeddah has raised eyebrows. The former is well-known for hosting championship matches. Given that Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens now possess the Undisputed Tag Team Titles, the company may have reached an agreement with Saudi Arabia predicated on Zayn’s involvement in the May 27 event.

Sami Zayn was born and raised in Canada, but now resides in the Orlando, Florida. His ethnic background, however, is Syrian, as both of his parents are Syrian immigrants.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Cultaholic) also reported, the Saudi authorities prevented WWE from working with Zayn at Super ShowDown in 2019 because of his Syrian background.
