Roman Reigns was born into the Anoa’i family to Sika and Patricia Anoa’i. His father Sika is a WWE Hall of Famer and was part of a tag team known as ‘The Wild Samoans.’ Reigns is half Samoan and half Italian. He also had a brother named Rosey who passed away in 2017. Rosey too wrestled in the WWE. As a member of the Anoaʻi family, he is a cousin to former professional wrestlers Yokozuna, Rikishi, Umaga, The Tonga Kid, The Usos, and The Rock.
In 2018, Reigns announced that he was re-diagnosed with leukemia after 11 years and that he would be taking a hiatus. He made his return on February 25, 2019, to announce his leukemia was in remission, and he received a huge ovation from the crowd.
Reigns initially sparked the excitement of the WWE Universe as a formidable member and leader of the group known as “The Shield,” where he joined forces with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose to pursue glory. Since 2020, Roman has been on a tear in the company as the Tribal Chief. He is the longest-reigning Universal Champion in history.
Roman Reigns is also related to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who is his cousin. The Rock is a global icon and one of the most successful wrestlers of all time. He has achieved tremendous success both in the wrestling ring and in Hollywood. Their shared Samoan heritage and wrestling lineage contribute to the close bond between the two.
The Anoa’i family legacy extends beyond Roman Reigns, with numerous other notable wrestlers emerging from this illustrious lineage. Reigns’ cousins include well-known wrestlers such as Yokozuna (Rodney Anoa’i), Umaga (Eddie Fatu), Rikishi (Solofa Fatu Jr.), and The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso, Jonathan and Joshua Fatu) and Solo Sikoa.

His continued rule of 1013+ days made him the Universal Champion with the longest reign as of 2022. He was noted for having the longest reign of any WWE championship since 1988 and the sixth-longest reign of any global championship in the promotion’s history.
He has won the 2015 Royal Rumble, the 2014 Superstar of the Year, the WWE United States Championship, the WWE Intercontinental Championship, and the WWE Tag Team Championship once each. With four eliminations in the 2013 Survivor Series bout, he equaled the WWE record for most eliminations in a match. With 12 eliminations in the 2014 Royal Rumble, he previously owned the record for most eliminations in a contest. He became the 17th Grand Slam Champion and the 28th Triple Crown Champion after winning the Intercontinental Championship.
