For many years, WWE has portrayed certain foreign-born wrestlers as Americans-hating heels, with this being one of, if not the main personality feature of that wrestler. In the past 20 years, wrestlers like Jinder Mahal, Rusev, and Muhammad Hassan have served as excellent examples of this; they have all frequently spoken about their support for the United States. Many people questioned whether Austrian heel GUNTHER would follow the clichéd pattern of the archetypal foreign heel, but he hasn’t. GUNTHER recently joined the main squad.

‘Times have changed’

Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER discussed how WWE has utilized foreign talent in the past on “The Rob Brown Show” as well as how he thinks a feud with “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes might develop.

“Times have changed,” GUNTHER said. “I totally get the concept of like, the bad foreigner comes in and wants to get the title. If I ever get to wrestle Cody Rhodes again, I think the roles there are clear. I am that bad guy from somewhere else and I want to beat the very popular American guy up and I think that’s totally fine. But like you said, just because somebody is from somewhere doesn’t mean they should be portrayed a certain way.”

Gunther’s recent success

Recent successes for GUNTHER include a record-breaking 71-minute performance at the Royal Rumble, which he considered to be a game-changing match for his career. I had a strong sense that the evening might have a major impact on my career. Despite the fact that Rhodes eliminated him to secure the victory, he did not become the winner of the contest, but many applauded him for having held on the longest.

Gunther has a new challenger after the Intercontinental title

On the 2/10 “WWE SmackDown” in Uncasville, CT, Madcap Moss was revealed as the new top contender for GUNTHER’s Intercontinental Championship. In the final match of Friday’s event, a Fatal 4-Way, Moss defeated Rey Mysterio, Santos Escobar, and Karrion Kross to win a future title shot against “The Ring General.” Moss and Emma, his real-life girlfriend, celebrated in the ring after his victory. The victory was heralded as the finest of Moss’ WWE career by announcers and on social media, and it was noted that he had earned his first-ever title opportunity so early in his career.

The match

When Mysterio hit a 619 on Kross towards the end of the match, Escobar and Moss were able to recover on the outside, giving Mysterio the advantage. When Scarlett tripped the renowned luchador at that precise moment, Escobar returned to the ring to finish off Kross with a clothesline. Moss took advantage of the circumstance by ascending the rope and delivering a flying elbow drop on a dead Mysterio before attempting the pinfall.

The GUNTHER vs. Moss title bout will take place on next week’s programme, according to WWE. The Elimination Chamber go-home show will also include The Banger Bros. (Drew McIntyre & Sheamus) vs. The Viking Raiders and Ronda Rousey & Shayna Baszler vs. Shotzi & Natalya.
