FIVB Volleyball Men's Nations League 2023: LIVE Streaming, When and Where to Watch, Schedule, and More

The play's structure is the same as it was in edition 2022. 16 men's teams will compete in pools of 8 teams under the new format

The fifth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League, an annual men’s international volleyball competition, will take place in 2023. The competition will run from June 6 through July 23, 2023, with the championship round taking place in Gdansk, Poland’s Ergo Arena. Australia was replaced in this edition by Cuba’s debutants due to the outcomes of the 2022 Nations League and Challenger Cup. For the competition, 16 teams were accepted. Ten of them met the criteria to be core teams that are exempt from relegation. The other six groups were chosen as challenger groups that might be demoted from the competition. After winning the 2022 Challenger Cup, Cuba took Australia’s place.

Australia finished last in the preliminary round of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League. After defeating the United States in five sets, France won their first VNL championship. It was the second silver medal won by the United States. With a straight-set victory over the competition’s host nation Italy, Poland claimed their second bronze medal. The tournament’s MVP was a Frenchman named Earvin N’Gapeth.

Format of the competition

The play’s structure is the same as it was in edition 2022. 16 men’s teams will compete in pools of 8 teams under the new format during the pool phase. During the pool stage, each team competes in 12 games. Eight teams will then advance to the competition’s knockout round. In the knockout phase of the VNL Finals, which will include eight matches total—four quarterfinals, two semifinals, and the bronze and gold medal matches—the seven best teams and the finals host nation will advance directly. The formula for the Final 8 direct elimination.

The top-ranked team will face the eighth-ranked team in the quarterfinals, followed by the second-ranked team playing the seventh-ranked team, the third-ranked team taking on the sixth-ranked team, and the fourth-ranked team taking on the fifth-ranked team. If the host team is not one of the top 8 teams in the final standings following the VNL Preliminary Phase, it is placed in eighth place. According to the Teams Ranking System for the VNL 2023, which takes into account the results of the Preliminary Phase, the teams that lose in the quarterfinals will be ranked 5th to 8th.
