Despite Brendan Allen’s intentions to call out Jared Cannonier as a potential opponent, he received advice from his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, advising him not to pursue that path.
“Cannonier, he’s looking for a title eliminator,” Allen said in a post-fight interview. “Ali told me not to call him [out] because he probably has a fight, but I already had this memorized so I was like whatever, I just gotta go with it. I did the two things Ali said [not to do] so I’m sorry, Ali, but it was already memorized, so I’m sorry.”
During a conversation between Brendan Allen and Laura Sanko, they shared a knowing laugh when discussing Jared Cannonier’s upcoming fight. A similar suggestive atmosphere arose during the post-fight press conference at UFC Jacksonville when the subject resurfaced. While not confirmed reports, rumors have begun circulating that Jared Cannonier might be facing Khamzat Chimaev as his next opponent.
When directly questioned by the press about the speculation regarding a potential matchup between Jared Cannonier and Khamzat Chimaev, Brendan Allen opted not to provide a definitive response.
“I plead the fifth,” Allen said.
