Daniel Cormier, a UFC legend, has expressed concerns over Conor McGregor’s potential downfall due to his fame, as uncertainties surround the Irishman’s future in the octagon. The highly anticipated UFC comeback of 34-year-old Conor McGregor against Michael Chandler, following their coaching roles on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter, is facing potential delays.

Initially scheduled for UFC 296 on December 16, the fight’s future hangs in the balance due to uncertainties surrounding McGregor’s standing in the USADA drug testing pool.

Amidst recent headlines, former two-weight champion Conor McGregor finds himself at the center of controversy, facing allegations of sexual assault at an NBA game, which he strongly refutes.

UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier has his say on McGregor

UFC retiree Daniel Cormier believes that McGregor’s immense popularity has resulted in him being surrounded by a circle of sycophants and enablers.

“You almost become a victim to the fame,” Cormier said on DC & RC. “You and I don’t know that level of fame. We just never got there, but you almost become a victim to the fame, and it seems as though he’s unwilling to let go of that, to let go of the idea that he can do less, that he has to be insulated, that he has to be surrounded by people that say no.

In accordance with UFC regulations, Conor McGregor is required to undergo six months of mandatory drug testing before he can step into the Octagon against Michael Chandler. While the deadline for McGregor to compete at UFC 296 has already passed, there remains a possibility of him fighting later in the year. It’s important to note that the six-month timeframe begins upon re-enrollment, rather than the date of a fighter’s initial test sample submission.

Michael Chandler questioning McGregor’s willingness to fight

In a Twitter video, Michael Chandler recently raised questions about Conor McGregor’s USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) status. The tweet read,

“No joke, where the f*** is that guy?” he wrote. “You have all seen the news that Conor is not in USADA. There are 179 days left until December 16 which is supposed to be the last pay-per-view of the year. Comically, USADA shows up at my door today to add insult to injury. Where you at boy?”
