Jon Jones holds a strong belief in the remarkable potential of Sean O’Malley, the recently crowned UFC bantamweight champion, foreseeing a shining future for him as a prominent star within the promotion. Having achieved a record of 17 wins and 1 loss in MMA, with a UFC record of 9 wins and 1 loss, O’Malley secured his journey to claim the UFC championship just a few weeks ago.

He managed to dethrone Aljamain Sterling from his 135-pound throne by securing a second-round TKO at UFC 292, held in Boston. The president of the UFC, Dana White, has enthusiastically positioned “Sugar” O’Malley as a standout draw for the promotion, confidently predicting that his fame will only continue to rise from this point onward.

Sean O’Malley on Conor McGregor’s path

Sporting a professional MMA record of 27 wins and 1 loss, including an impressive 21 victories within the UFC, Jones, who currently holds the UFC heavyweight title, concurs with the notion that O’Malley’s star is in ascendancy. He discerns intriguing similarities between O’Malley’s path in the sport and the trajectory that former two-division champion Conor McGregor once followed.

“Sean O’Malley – I’m excited about him – he has the look,” Jones said on the OverDogs Podcast. “He reminds me a lot of McGregor. He’s really raw and authentic, he has that kind of rags-to-riches story that everyone appreciates, especially in this country. I like him. I like him a lot and I really want to see how far he can take it.”

As Jones prepares to step back into the octagon and defend his title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 on November 11, hosted at Madison Square Garden in New York, he openly acknowledges his choice in favor of Sterling to emerge victorious in his bout against O’Malley.

Sean O’Malley surpassed Jon Jones’ expectations

Surpassing even Jones’ initial anticipations, O’Malley’s performance has piqued the keen interest of “Bones,” leading him to wholeheartedly engage in observing the unfolding trajectory of O’Malley’s career from this point onward.

“He’s young enough still to where he can take those leaps and bounds in his game,” Jones said. “He’s going to be around for a long time. To beat up Aljamain like that – I always put my money on the wrestler. O’Malley, he’s looking like the total package. I’m going to be tuning into his pay-per-views for the next couple of years.”
