As the final moments ticked away on their intense rivalry, McGregor began to shift his focus towards Gaethje, who had recently secured the BMF championship by defeating Dustin Poirier at UFC 291. Prior to the trilogy fight with the Californian slated for the upcoming year, McGregor is enthusiastic about recapturing the title that was initially crafted for his former adversary, Nate Diaz.

In a recent tweet, McGregor conveyed his continued openness to facing Chandler in a bout, yet he noted that Gaethje seemed to be garnering more promotional spotlight. The former interim lightweight champion disclosed that the matchup had come close to materializing on six separate occasions, citing a near occurrence in 2019 that was unfortunately derailed due to an injury setback suffered by the Irishman.

Dana White additionally shared that he had a discussion with Conor, revealing that Conor is fully prepared to step into the arena for a clash against Michael Chandler, and he has been in excellent physical condition.
