UFC 273 results: Chimaev & Burns went on war, Volkanovski retains

Khamzat Chimaev lived up to the expectations by beating Gilbert Burns, the world's No. 2-ranked welterweight, on the UFC 273 pay-per-view (PPV) main card.

UFC 273 was a blast. Every fighter almost went on war. But the most heartthrobing match was definitely Khmazat Chmiaev vs Gilbert Burns. They both totally went on war and gave one hell of a show. They both were going very strong and in Chimaev’s whole career he never faced someone as Burns as he totally was going all-out. Volkanovski retained his title and also there was Aljamain Sterling vs. Peter Yan. So, below are the UFC 273 results.

UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling vs. Interim Bantamweight Champion Petr Yan

On Saturday, Sterling (21-3) had the big smirk on Petr Yan (16-3) and all of his detractors, as he won a razor-thin split decision over Yan. The 135-pound title fight was the co-headliner of UFC 273 at VyStar Veteran’s Memorial Arena, and it was expected to put an end to any lingering debate from their first encounter in March 2021.

Nevertheless, other people scored the battle in Yan’s favor, therefore the debate may not be resolved. Sterling won 48-47 from two judges, while Yan won 48-47 from the third.

Winner: Aljamain Sterling

Gilbert Burns vs. Khamzat Chimaev

At VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, the unbeaten Chimaev defeated Burns by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). It was a rocking rare fight, with both guys landing strikes that knocked the other out. It was a three-round struggle that was one of the finest UFC fights in recent years.

Also, this was the first time Chimaev had to go all 3 rounds as he had finished in all his matches. Still, Chimaev is undefeated and going strong, Even though Burns lost but both men must have respect for them as Chimaev after match said he never thought that Burns is tough and respect to him and also praised his native country Brazil.

Winner: Khamzat Chimaev

Mackenzie Dern vs. Tecia Torres

UFC 273 saw Tecia Torres effectively suppress Mackenzie Dern’s submission attempts, but it wasn’t enough to win. Dern (12-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) won a split decision against Torres (13-6 MMA, 9-6 UFC) in a bout that went the distance. Finally, the judges ruled in her favour, awarding her 28-29, 29-28, and 29-28 scores.

At VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, the women’s strawweight match was part of the UFC 273 main card.

Winner: Mackenzie Dern

Mark Madsen vs. Vinc Pichel

Mark O. Madsen won a unanimous decision to open the pay-per-view main card at UFC 273 and continued his winning ways. Vince Pichel gave Madsen everything he could handle over three rounds, but wrestling and a rigorous pace from the three-time Olympian were enough to help him clinch the victory. Madsen won the bout 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28, bringing his career record to 12-0.

Madsen targeted the leg with a barrage of calf kicks from the beginning of the bout, causing Pichel to display visible injury. While Pichel was fending with jabs.

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Chan Sung Jung

Alexander Volkanovski overcame “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung on Saturday, demonstrating that he is a level beyond his opponents.

Volkanovski (24-1 MMA, 11-0 UFC) defeated Jung (17-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC) with punches at 0:45 of Round 4 to defend his featherweight championship in UFC 273’s main event.

Volkanovksi demonstrated why he carries the belt from start to finish. Jung was often knocked off balance by his powerful leg kicks. In the first three rounds, his boxing was sharp, and he downed and rocked Jung many times. By the fourth round, Volkanovski TKO’d “The Korean Zombie.”
