Amidst the mounting criticism surrounding Tyson Fury’s decision to take on Francis Ngannou, John Fury has passionately come to his son’s defense. The boxing icon, famously known as the ‘Gypsy King,’ sparked discontent among certain boxing fans when he announced his fight with the former UFC heavyweight champion, who is making his debut in the boxing ring. The clash between the two formidable fighters is scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia on October 28th.

Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk, has gone so far as to demand the WBC heavyweight titleholder’s removal by the organization. This call comes as Usyk chose to confront a debutant instead of a ranked contender, prompting discontent and controversy within the boxing community.

John Fury holds high praise for his son

John Fury firmly dismisses any negative comments directed at his son, attributing them to jealousy stemming from Tyson’s remarkable achievements in the division. He asserts that Tyson’s ability to clean out the division has afforded him the opportunity to engage in crossover bouts, a feat that others might envy.

“He’s the best in the world. And I think people are just sore because there’s a lot of green-eyed monsters about, and most of it is jealousy, you know because anybody with a brain will know it’s a good business move, it’s a good payday.

“I think the people who make comments are people who are irrelevant anyway. I know fans are what we want, but what can he do? What can he do?”

Tyson Fury compare to Muhammad Ali

The young fighter has become a formidable force, leaving many hesitant to face him. When the chance arose, he wholeheartedly seized it, and rightfully so. Moreover, the country of Saudi Arabia stands out as a premier host for such events, elevating the entire experience to new heights.

“No one wants to fight the kid. So, this opportunity presented itself, he took it with both hands, and why not? And there’s only the great country of Saudi to put these fights on now because they’re blowing everything out of the water.”

Additionally, the 59-year-old highlighted a compelling historical parallel, referencing the legendary Muhammad Ali. Renowned as one of the greatest boxers in history, Ali engaged in a comparable crossover bout in 1976 against professional wrestler Antonio Inoki.
